Fast Food Chain Popeyes to Debut Its First Sandwich. The item, which premieres next week and contains pickles, is very similar to rival Chick-fil-A's classic chicken sandwich. It will be served on a toasted brioche bun along with a choice of either a classic mayo or spicy Cajun spread. With its new sandwich, Popeyes is hoping the item will help out same-store sales growth, which increased 3% in the most recent quarter. The nationwide release also comes as Popeyes attempts to keep up with Chick-fil-A'

The restaurant’s newest menu item has sparked an online debate over which fast food chain serves the best chicken sandwich.

Wendy’s, Bojangles, and Shake Shack have all entered the battle.

But the main competition seems to be between Popeyes and Chick-fil-A.

Although Chick-fil-A has been famous for its chicken sandwich for decades, Popeyes’ version of the dish has threatened to take the top spot.

Some posted videos of their first impression of the Popeyes sandwich.

Others said the entree was sold out or revealed the lines were long at their local Popeyes thanks to hashtags like #ChickenSandwichTwitter or #ChickenSandwichWar.

A few said making the switch to Popeyes was easy because of Chick-fil-A's stance on gay marriage. The brand's CEO, Dan Cathy, said in 2012 Chick-fil-A believed marriage to be between a man and a woman, citing the family's Christian beliefs.

But many remained loyal to Chick-fil-A and said the chain was the reigning champ of the chicken sandwich.
