A flight was forced to return to the airport after an irate passenger allegedly threw a cup of boiling water at a flight attendant over a seat dispute.
The mayhem occurred on AirAsia flight FD9101 from Bangkok to Nanjing, according to the Free Malaysia Times report. A statement from the airlines claims that a couple became angry after being told they would not be able to sit together. The couple was part of a tour group and seating was alphabetical. Even though a flight attendant was able to arrange for the couple to sit together, that did not resolve the situation.
The Nanfang Insider claims the angry female passenger ordered instant noodles and asked for boiling water, which she threw at the flight attendant's face. The female passenger's male companion made threats about blowing up the plane, followed by the female making suicidal threats.
The airline says the couple berated flight staff and the captain decided to return to the airport. Police escorted the couple off the plane, and the couple paid a fine to settle the dispute. No serious injuries were suffered during the flight.
