A man from West Palm Beach was arrested after allegedly punching and pistol whipping a woman during an argument that started over KFC, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

Calvin Shuler, 37, faces charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and grand theft of a firearm in the Dec. 2 incident.

Deputies responded to a home around 6 p.m. in an unincorporated area of West Palm Beach when a woman called and said Shuler hit her with her gun and beat her up, the arrest report states.

Deputies said the victim was limping and suffered multiple bruises and red scratches. The victim said Shuler fled the home after they began arguing about her driving him to KFC. Fearing for her safety, she then locked herself in the home, and while she was lying in bed Shuler allegedly kicked down the door, jumped on top of her and attacked her, according to the arrest report.

As Shuler was punching her, the victim said she grabbed her purse and tried to retrieve her loaded revolver but Shuler took the gun out of the bag and hit her on the head with it.

Shuler then fled the home again. Deputies quickly located Shuler and took him to the Palm Beach County Jail.

On Dec. 6, a circuit court judge ordered him to be held at the jail on a $57,000 bond and have no contact with the victim. He has a scheduled court hearing on Jan. 4.
