Firefighters rescued a woman out of a 75-foot tree after she climbed up to retrieve her cat.
The Bangor Daily News reports that the woman, who is in her 60s, was trying to rescue a black cat from the tree. Fortunately, she brought along a cellphone, because she quickly realized she was stuck.
The woman was near the top of the tree when a rescue crew arrived, according to the Presque Isle Police Department Facebook page, where a dramatic rescue photo was posted.
The owner did not want to be rescued without her cat, but firefighters assured her they would go back up the tree to rescue the cat when she was safe. The woman was exhausted after the ordeal and taken to a local hospital, where she is expected to recover. The cat refused to come down with the rescue crew's help, but the cat managed to come down on its own a short time later.
The fire chief said that owners should not attempt to climb a tree to rescue a cat, as the cat will usually come down on its own when it is hungry or thirsty.
