Seattle police are investigating after they found a suspected cockfighting operation in a man’s backyard Thursday.
Police said the Washington homeowner called police at about 1 p.m. after finding a teen in his living room.
According to police, the man told police the teen punched him in the face and fled with a handful of stolen cash.
Police searched the neighborhood but couldn’t find the suspect.
As police were investigating at the home, officers found 42 roosters and hens in the backyard. The birds appeared to have been bred and altered for cockfighting.
The man surrendered his birds to the Seattle Animal Shelter law enforcement officers.
According to police, shelter staff were forced to euthanize many of the birds because they had been bred and mistreated to a state of extreme aggressiveness.
The man is under investigation for animal abuse.
