If you've ever been been invited to a party but were unable to make it and decided to skip out, you may want to rethink that in the future.

BBC News reports that 5-year-old Alex Nash of Cornwall was invited to a classmate's birthday party at a ski center just before Christmas. Alex's father, Derek, had agreed for his son to attend the party, but forgot they already had plans to visit the grandparents. When he returned to school, little Alex had the £15.95, or about $24, invoice put in his school bag for being a no-show.

Derek met with the birthday boy's mother, thinking the invoice was a joke. When he found out it wasn't, he refused to pay up. The birthday boy's mother, Julie Lawrence, says she has no regrets.

"All details were on the party invite," she said in a short statement. "They had every detail needed to contact me."

The Herald reports that Lawrence and her husband plan on taking the matter to small claims court.
