The Tulsa County District Attorney's Office filed an assault and battery charge against Sgt. DeLorn Sanders, of the Tulsa Police Department.

Sanders is accused of assaulting another police officer last month in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Officials said Sanders was off duty at the time.

The incident happened June 30 outside a day care at around 10 p.m. Authorities said officers responded to a domestic violence call.

Sanders was allegedly involved in a family dispute while setting up a child's birthday party.

“He’s never had a history whatsoever of any disciplinary action taken against him,” attorney Daniel Smolen said of Sanders.

Records show that callers told 911 that Sanders went to his car to retrieve something, got into a struggle with one of the responding officers and allegedly hit him. What he went to get from his car was unclear.

Tulsa police said Sanders has not yet faced any disciplinary action while an internal investigation is ongoing, but he has been reassigned.

He turned himself into the Tulsa County Jail Thursday evening.

Dashcam footage of the incident is expected to be released Thursday.
