Q: What impact has the current Louisiana flooding had on Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, such as its activities, its students and the staff?

—Marion G. Webb, Jr., Austell

A: Classes aren't scheduled to begin at LSU until Aug. 22, but much of campus has been closed because of the flooding throughout Baton Rouge, La., and the surrounding area.

The residence halls were open Friday for those students scheduled to move in, but were closed over the weekend and Monday, forcing the cancellation of freshman orientation.

School officials asked students scheduled to move in during that time to “please plan to join us on another, more suitable day,” it states on LSU.edu.

Both campus dining halls were open Monday for students.

The university has asked employees not required to be on campus to “please stay away to avoid any flood-related hazards.”

The LSU football team’s Fan Day was canceled Saturday and the team has been practicing in its indoor facility.

At least four people have been killed and 20,000 others have been rescued from flooding throughout the area.

Q: What are the marks on Michael Phelps’ shoulders and back?

—David Dickey, Dallas

A: The circular bruises are the result of cupping therapy, a procedure used to treat sore muscles and increase blood flow that dates to ancient cultures.

Cups are placed on the skin and then either heat or suction pulls the skin into the cup.

“The theory is that the increased blood flow speeds healing,” Dr. Michael Smith, WebMD’s chief medical editor, told CBS News.
