Q: President Barack Obama flew to North Carolina to campaign for Hillary Clinton. Who paid for that trip and how much was it? Clinton also was on that trip. Who paid for her expenses and how much were they?

—Tom Hundley, Peachtree City

A: Clinton's campaign committee is required to reimburse the federal government for part of the costs to travel on Air Force One from Washington to Charlotte, N.C.

The Clinton campaign’s payment “still leaves Obama’s normal expense-payers making up most of the cost,” the Washington Post stated in an article on July 5.

Air Force One costs about $200,000 an hour to operate, CNN.com reported.

The reimbursement must equal the cost of chartering a 737 aircraft, the New York Times wrote in 2012, which the Post reported is about $11,000 an hour.

“Those figures suggest that Clinton’s campaign will probably end up paying less than a tenth of the cost of Obama’s trip to Charlotte,” the Post wrote.

Q: It seems that the Peachtree Road Race men’s winner has been from Africa for as long as I can remember. When was the last time an American won the race?

—Frank Manfre, Grayson

A: American Christo Landry won the men's division in 2014, when the Peachtree Road Race also was the U.S. 10K Championship, and Alexi Pappas won the women's race in 2015.

Also in 2015, Shalane Flanagan won the Peachtree Cup, a “team competition separate from the open race that Pappas won,” a race spokeswoman told Q&A on the News in an email.
