Q: Parkinson’s disease is one of the many pre-existing conditions that insurance companies will not be required to cover under the House Republican health care bill. Since U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson suffers from Parkinson’s, has he commented as to whether he thinks it should be covered?

A: Nothing in the House-passed American Health Care Act says individuals with pre-existing conditions will not have access to health insurance coverage, Isakson's spokeswoman Amanda Maddox told Q&A on the News via email.

“There has been a lot of misinformation on pre-existing conditions and what was or was not included,” she wrote. “The House bill didn’t repeal the guaranteed issue or renewability requirements or the prohibition on coverage exclusions for pre-existing conditions, nor does it allow states to seek waivers of these rules.”

“The Senate is currently working on this repeal and replace legislation, and Sen. Isakson would not be supportive of any legislation that fails to ensure affordable coverage options for those with Parkinson’s or other pre-existing conditions,” she wrote. “He is committed to working to ensure that people with Parkinson’s are protected in any health reform legislation.”
