The Stockbridge Elementary Ambassadors, a group of 20 second and third graders, travel to Washington D.C. this month for a four-day lesson in American government and history that will be highlighted by President Barack Obama’s inauguration. This diverse group of academically strong students leaves Jan. 19 with a jam-packed itinerary, including the inaugural ball. “There is a sense of excitement among the students, staff, and the parents who will get a chance to witness history in the making,” said principal Bonita Fluker. “The students have studied government and democracy within the classroom, but this takes it to a totally different level. They will now receive an opportunity to see government in action.”
