Congress approved the second round of stimulus payments in late December, and by the first day of the year, many U.S. residents were reporting that the payment had arrived in their bank accounts. However, some taxpayers are awaiting their second stimulus payment.
For those who employed H&R Block to prepare their taxes last year, there may be a reason your payment has yet to arrive. The tax-preparing authority tweeted Monday night that there may be delays in retrieving stimulus checks for their customers.
According to H&R Block, customers who have checked the IRS Get My Payment tracking tool may see an account number their payment was issued to that is not aligned with their bank account number. That discrepancy can be attributed to customers who used the company’s Refund Transfer option in 2019 and were issued a temporary account number.
H&R Block is investigating this issue, but there has been no update about how long it will take for those payments to arrive, as of Tuesday afternoon. The company has fielded several complaints from customers about the delays.
“H&R Block understands stimulus checks are vitally important for millions of Americans. The IRS determines where second stimulus payments were sent, and in some cases, money was sent to a different account than the first stimulus payment last spring,” read a statement on H&R Block’s Twitter page.
H&R Block has advised customers seeing an account number different than their own on the IRS site to contact the company for additional information at 800-HRBLOCK or 1-866-353-1266.
Beyond the H&R Block issue, some U.S. taxpayers may have to continue to wait for their payments no matter how their taxes were handled. The U.S. Treasury and IRS are moving fast to submit all the second stimulus checks, with Congress setting a deadline of Jan. 15 for the two agencies to complete submitting the payments, according to reports.
The stimulus checks of up to $600 are already going out through direct deposit to bank accounts and in the mail as paper checks and EIP cards. Those interested in checking the status of when their payment will arrive can visit the IRS payment page.
