After their use in the Las Vegas massacre, bump stocks have become a hot topic when it comes to Congress and gun control. We asked our panel of Georgians:
Should Congress ban “bump stocks” and similar devices that allow semiautomatic weapons to fire like machine guns?
The panel expressed mixed feelings about the use of this gun accessory. Some had never even heard of the device, which replaces the weapon's gunstock (the part of a rifle to which the barrel and firing mechanism are attached) and allows a weapon to fire in a rapid sequence.
Many felt that a gun accessory that essentially allows a semiautomatic gun to mimic an automatic weapon should be banned and not allowed for civilian use.
Others felt that Congress should address other gun laws rather than focusing on this one accessory. We also had a few gun owners and Second Amendment backers who backed the ban of bump stocks because they said it turned normal guns into illegal automatic weapons.
