A pregnant El Salvadorian woman who found sanctuary with her young children at a Catholic mission in Lilburn has returned to her home in the Atlanta area.

Claudia Mariela Jurado fled to the Our Lady of the Americas Catholic Mission last month after federal immigration authorities requested she appear in Atlanta to be deported for illegally entering the country. She left the mission with her children early Saturday morning.

A spokesman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement declined to comment on Jurado’s case other than to say that his agency “is focused on effective immigration enforcement that prioritizes the arrest and removal of convicted criminals.”

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Atlanta released a statement Monday, saying: “We are pleased that the situation at Our Lady of the Americas Mission has resolved itself. We will continue to keep this young family and all those in similar situations in our prayers.”
