The wife of Peachtree City police Chief William McCollom is paralyzed from the waist down after being shot by her husband early New Year’s Day at the couple’s Fayette County home, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Two sources have confirmed Margaret McCollom’s paralysis, Channel 2 reported late Thursday morning. She was released from Atlanta Medical Center earlier this week.

The station did not say where Margaret McCollom went after she left the hospital or provide more information about her condition.

The chief called 911 around 4 a.m. on Jan. 1 to report that he had accidentally shot his wife, according to the GBI. He was placed on paid administrative leave pending completion of an investigation and an internal review, Peachtree City police Lt. Mark Brown previously told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Margaret McCollom was flown to Atlanta Medical Center in critical condition following the shooting, and was released from the hospital on Monday.

When interviewed from her hospital bed, Margaret McCollom told investigators she was asleep at the time she was shot, but believed it was accidental.
