A pregnant New York woman returning home from her baby shower was shot and killed Sunday when a fight apparently broke out between her boyfriend and her ex, according to reports.
Shanice Young, 31, was only weeks away from giving birth to her third child when she was fatally shot in the head in front of her older daughter, ABC 7 reports.
Her unborn child also died.
“Shanice was nine months pregnant...she was nine months pregnant,” said Young’s grieving sister, Metania, according to the station.
The shooting happened just after 1 a.m. at 300 West 128th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard as Young was bringing gifts into the lobby of her building, reports said.
It was unclear if either man had been accompanying the woman or if they both showed up separately. One of them was armed when an apparent confrontation erupted between the two.
Young was trying to break up the fight when the gun fired, several reports said. A single bullet struck her in the head, police said.
It was unclear if Young was the intended target, CBS New York reports.
Neighbors told authorities that one man was the father of Young’s unborn child and that the other man was her ex, ABC 7 reported.
Police were searching for the victim’s ex-boyfriend, according to CBS New York.
