A school security company is allegedly using the horrific school shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary to drum up business.
School officials across the state of Connecticut say they received an email solicitation from a Toledo glass company which included a photo of a blown out window inside the elementary school reportedly taken from crime scene photographers.
The Hartford Courant reports Commercial Window Shield sent the image in their email blast with a caption reading "Securing glass with shatter-resistant window film will help keep out unwanted intruders."
Essex, Conn. Board of Education Chairman Lon Seidman says company executives should be ashamed of themselves, "To somehow insinuate that the product would have somehow prevented what happened was just woefully inappropriate."
The Courant reports that every board of education chairman in the state received the email.
On Dec. 14, 2012, 20-year-old Adam Lanza fatally shot 20 children and six adult staff members in a mass murder at Sandy Hook Elementary School in the town of Newtown.
On Wednesday, a representative from Commercial Window sent out a follow-up email apologizing to those offended.
Company representative Sarah Staley said she, too, was upset over the way her company promoted the product, "I hope you are able to accept my apology, as our intention was not to cause you or the people of Newtown any further pain or anguish. I am literally sick over this."
The company's security film is designed to hold glass in place if it is broken to prevent immediate entry into a building.
