Column a refreshing view on life’s value
Thanks to guest columnist attorney Emily Matson (“Films offer Roe v. Wade lesson,” Opinion, Jan. 23) for her reflections on the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision. What is its legacy, she asks. Her conclusion is that the value of the tiny life inside a woman’s womb depends solely on when the woman herself thinks it’s a person.
We need to appreciate the efforts of those who cause us to reflect on the legacy of Roe v Wade.

Drug raid story raises questions
I read the recent AJC story about a raid on one of Georgia’s state prisons by a host of law enforcement agencies that resulted in large quantities of contraband (drugs, cellphones, etc.) being confiscated and charges being filed against at least 34 people (prisoners, prison employees, etc.). The story raises significant questions, like why does Gov. Deal want to spend $20 million reforming inmates who appear to be smarter than him and his prison administrators and why is the commissioner of the Dept. of Corrections still on the state’s payroll? And why have such raids not been conducted in every prison, especially when we know prisoners are using their (prohibited) cell phones to bilk law-abiding citizens out of millions of dollars a year?
