Bookman should know all illegal immigrants are criminals
Here’s a direct quote from Jay Bookman’s totally illogical editorial screed, “Murder as a means to further an agenda” (Opinion, Aug. 26): “For the record, there is no indication that immigrants, whether documented or otherwise, are more likely than the rest of us to commit crime. In fact, statistics tell us the opposite is probably true.” Jay, did your mama ever scream at you as a kid, “What part of the word ‘No’ do you not understand?” So, what part of the phrase “illegal immigrant” (focusing on that pesky word “illegal”) do you not understand? Did it ever occur to you that fully 100 percent of illegal immigrants are criminals? Here’s another related, deep question I want to ask Jay: What percentage of “undocumented pharmacists” – those street corner thugs who sell illegal drugs to kids – are criminals?

Columnist’s conservative biases overrule his thought process
Cal Thomas’ column, “Doctor’s scathing diagnosis of what ails U.S. health care” (Opinion, Aug. 28), teaches more about the author than the issue and probably more than he intended. Thomas asked his retired longtime family physician why fewer young people are going to medical school. The physician explains the changes to the practice of medicine which he blames on a nationwide system of financial obfuscation in which the ruling denizens are huge entities that control scores of hospitals, or health insurance for millions, or pharmaceutical and other benefits. The doctor does not mention government. Thomas then says the problem is over-involvement by government in medical care. In doing this, Thomas ignores the doctor’s opinion that he just quoted and returns to his life mantra that everything is government’s fault. Thomas clearly shows how his biases dominate his thought process.
