Preacher was right about black-on-black crime

The Rev. Jasper Williams, pastor emeritus of Salem Baptist Church, is in deep trouble for decrying the amount of black-on-black crime in Atlanta and the breakup of the black family. Many folks are upset his statement was part of his eulogy for Aretha Franklin, rather than, sadly, that it is true. He has even riled up the preacher teacher at Emory University. Good grief! As I recall, Salem Baptist Church is not right-wing. They welcomed the Clinton people to speak there years back. However, they should be proud of Rev. Williams and do all they can to remedy the situation. They could start by telling Atlanta’s pretty black girls not to buy the same old line and insist on marriage first.

Unneeded GOP tax cut forcing up federal deficit

The Congressional Budget Office reported the budget deficit hit $895 billion in the first 11 months of fiscal 2018, an increase of 32 percent over the same period the previous year. The increase is due mostly to the new Republican tax cut law and Congress’ reckless decision to increase spending by seven percent compared to revenue growth of only one percent. The CBO now says the deficit will approach $1 trillion by the end of the fiscal year. Thanks, Republicans! My children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will be paying for all the tax cuts to the wealthy and to multinational corporations, which didn’t need them to begin with. One part of the tax cut legislation did work as Republicans promised: Money held offshore, $300 billion, was repatriated and brought back to our country. Republicans said it would be used to build factories and create jobs. In reality, it was mostly used for stock buybacks and shareholder dividends.
