Where are protesters of non-police murders of kids?

The level of violence in this country is completely out of control. I wish we could eliminate it all! But one point of confusion is the response from advocates of #Black Lives Matter. There are protests and outrage when a white cop kills a fleeing, black criminal suspect. Yet recently, we had two innocent black children shot by black perpetrators. And not one peep from the protest groups. Where's the outrage? Where are the marches and demonstrations? Can we not agree on the fact that all lives matter? That's something so many of our young thugs have yet to learn. Sad, but true!

Share building’s name to honor McCain, Russell

U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer has announced he will introduce a resolution to rename the Richard B. Russell Senate Office Building in honor of Sen. John McCain, a controversial proposal. I have a proposal that will get around some of the controversy: Rename the building the Richard B. Russell-John McCain Senate Office Building. There is a precedent right here in Atlanta for such a proposal. The Atlanta airport for years was the William B. Hartsfield Airport. It was later proposed to change the name from Hartsfield to Jackson. That was met with such reaction that the proposal was changed to retain Hartsfield and add Jackson. It became Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. It seems everyone is happy, especially since Atlanta has both a domestic and an international terminal. So I propose changing the Richard B. Russell Senate Office Building to the Russell-McCain Senate Office Building.

U.S. silent majority still stands with Trump

Of course, President Donald Trump knew his attorney was paying off women who claimed to have had affairs with him. He knew about Don Jr.’s meeting with the Russians beforehand. But do Trump supporters care? Of course not. What they do care about is the liberal-socialist direction the country was heading, economically and morally. They elected a flawed man, a fighter, knowing he was not always going to fight fair, but that he knew how to fight and win. President Trump has not disappointed his supporters. He has given them just what they wanted – a booming economy, conservative judges, low unemployment, and progress towards securing our borders. Democrats are poor losers with hurt feelings. The silent majority is with President Trump. He may be undignified and immoral, but he is bringing back morality, independence and power to the U.S. and its people, just what his supporters wanted.

Trump’s treatment of McCain disrespectful, petty

"Profiles in Courage," a 1957 book, describes acts of bravery and integrity by eight U.S. senators who defied the opinions of their party (and even their constituents) to do what they felt was right, ethical and just. Sen. John McCain should be number nine on this list. He was a true courageous American hero. Our president, in his pettiness, ordered raising from half-mast the U.S. flag over the White House scarcely 24 hours after McCain's death. Presumably, the president's pique is because McCain had the temerity to speak out about Trump's egregious behavior, which bruised Trump's fragile ego. The flag was lowered again to half-mast only after howls of criticism. The Republican majority in the Senate and House demonstrates an abject display of Profiles in Cowardice. They did not speak out about Trump's disrespect of Sen. McCain by raising the flag back so soon. Only retiring Republican congressional members have the courage to speak out. – KATHLEEN COLLOMB, DECATUR
