Honorable men, but a losing cause
In the memorial debate story (“Birth of idea to honor King,” News, Oct. 18), Mark Pozner referred to Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis and Stonewall Jackson on the Stone Mountain carving as “really bad men.” That indicates to me Mr. Pozner, in the words of the late Lewis Grizzard, “ain’t from around here.” I would suggest he perform some much-needed research in non-revisionist Southern history to find out what honorable and dedicated men these individuals were, even though they fought for a losing cause in the War Between the States.
Robert E. Lee freed his slaves prior to the war and became president of what is now Washington and Lee University in Virginia. He was known as a man of highest honor and integrity on both sides of the battlefield. Regardless of Mr. Pozner’s statements about removing the symbols of the Confederacy at the park, you cannot change the history and heritage of the South with the ongoing attempts of “cultural cleansing” currently in vogue by the “carpetbaggers and scalawags” of our time.

Why solar power is better for Earth
Thank you for Sunday’s story of Suniva’s success (“Gwinnett solar firm betting surge no fluke,” Business, Oct. 18). Your writer highlighted a growing industry, but failed to note some of the important reasons to use solar power. It’s delivered for free daily, so there’s no shipping costs or risk of embargo. The sun is a nuclear reactor, but this one is a safe distance away. Best of all, there’s no climate-changing gases released when you use solar power. We are already seeing early effects of global warming; the sooner we can switch to non-polluting wind and solar, the better for us and those who will live after us on what the Pope called “our common home.”

Trudeau’s election favors death cult
Beautiful picture on A3 today (“For Canada, Trudeau election offers change,” News, Oct. 21) of Canadian Prime Minister-designate Justin Trudeau with the smiling Muslim woman. The caliphate just made inroads into Canada on the path to world domination without drawn knives or swords. The sad part is that Trudeau and his personality cult have no idea what they will face from the death cult that is Islam. Eventually, it will have no hesitation to take off his pretty head and that of any Canadian who will not convert, pay the tax or die. What the world’s elite just doesn’t understand is their money and power will not protect them from a theology whose goal fears neither.
