Take pride in girl who won a Nobel
As a Pakistani-born Muslim girl, I am very proud of Malala Yousafzai for winning the Nobel Peace Prize. At such a young age, Malala was able to convey to the world an important message about equality and education. She is a living example of proving that education can and always will be the solution to all problems. Malala stood up for what she believed in. Her bravery and courage is an inspiration for everyone around the world.
Malala raised awareness about issues not only concerning Pakistan but of other countries as well. She brought attention to the fact that men are not superior to women. Both are equal. Malala also signified the point that by educating everyone, we can solve all kinds of issues. Her dedication and willingness to bring about change is my inspiration. By supporting Malala and her purpose, we can surely bring world peace.

News media abets Obama’s socialism
Democrats believe government can create jobs by increasing taxes and distributing money to pet projects, like to the failed alternative energy company Solyndra that cost taxpayers over $500 million. Has Barack Obama and the Keynesian economics crowd that surround him learned anything from that failure and other failed government “partnerships”?
No! Not when we have major news outlets owned and operated by those who have total misunderstanding and ignorance to what made this country the wealthiest, most powerful nation in history. This group of malcontents is willing to take us down a very bumpy road before admitting they made a huge mistake in voting for and supporting what is essentially a European socialist-type failed economic system.
Government bureaucrats are out of control, and the news media — which we depend on to stop government excesses — has joined them, leaving us little protection against the government tyranny we are now witnessing on a daily basis from the Obama regime.

GOP isn’t looking out for our seniors
As a senior citizen, I was intrigued by the statistics quoted by Jay Bookman in his Sunday column (“GOP’s margin shrinks,” Opinion, Oct. 12). It seems that the vast majority of ethnically white seniors tend to vote Republican regardless of the history of that party. It amazes me that people will consistently vote against their own interests.
The Republicans have actively attempted to block and hinder social programs for the elderly such as Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. They continually misinform the public and, especially, the senior community as to their real intentions. Their trickle-down policies have been totally discredited as purely supporting the rich, and their proposed austerity measures are aimed at hurting the old and the poor.
Bookman has it right when he references the actuarial impacts on future voting practices, but maybe that could be brought forward with some clear messages to seniors. Look closely at the platforms and history of each party before voting. The Democrats are truly concerned for seniors, while the Republican are simply foxes in disguise, ready to gut the programs that keep many of us seniors alive and well.
