Walking, transit key to neighborhoods
Walking can enhance the experience of community (“How to take back our streets,” Opinion, Nov. 18), and it’s the healthy choice — less congestion, better air quality, stronger bodies. My neighborhood was greatly improved when Mayor Shirley Franklin built sidewalks on Peachtree-Dunwoody Road. I now live in walking distance of numerous stores and often run errands on foot. Walkable areas and public transportation transform a city making it more livable and enjoyable.
MARTA has made great strides. Trains run on time, and MARTA’S free app provides train/bus schedules. Cars are clean and pleasant. Sam Massell (“Millennials choosing Buckhead,” Opinion, Nov. 22) is right that Atlanta’s prosperity is to everyone’s advantage in all the suburban areas, and the central city. Atlanta’s success hinges on easy access between areas. Everyone benefits if MARTA continues providing good service, and can expand and improve.

Come on, GOP, let’s sue Obama
The Republicans need to challenge President Obama’s immigration executive order in court. For too long, the U.S. Supreme Court has failed to deal with the constitutionality of an executive order. Under the Constitution, the president has veto power. With this power, he is, by far, the most powerful person in the U.S. Unfortunately for Obama and many past presidents, being the most powerful by far is not enough. Pigs get fat; hogs get slaughtered. Come on, Republicans, file the action and see if he has crossed the hog weight threshold.

Cartoonist wrong to make judgments
While I generally disagree with the political cartoons of Mike Luckovich, I admit he has talent and appeal. However, in his submission Nov. 26 showing Lady Justice holding the scales with one side featuring an obvious Officer Darren Wilson from the Ferguson, Mo., incident standing on top of an apparent black person on the ground is blatantly wrong and ill conceived. I seriously doubt Mr. Luckovich had access to all pertinent information related to the case, nor that he spent time reviewing all aspects of the incident. The grand jury members had those insights and reached the very obvious conclusion there was no basis in fact to bring charges. This cartoon only illustrates that Mr. Luckovich is the one blind to justice.

Don’t play politics with our economy
Phil Kent has displayed the ugly side of Georgia politics. Delta has expressed a view on immigration that Mr. Kent , a member of Georgia Immigration and Enforcement Board, disagrees with (“Action shows no respect for laws,” Opinion, Nov. 24). His response: “Since Delta chooses to take political sides. … then perhaps the Georgia Legislature should finally waive the far too generous fuel tax breaks it gives to Delta” Wow! I thought perhaps the fuel tax breaks were in the interest of the Georgia and Atlanta economies. How silly of me. Mr. Kent needs to broaden his views past political retribution.
