America is about opportunity, inclusion

A letter-writer wrote about the so called “browning of America” (“Trump only one taking firm stand,” Readers Write, March 11) and commented that there are people “who want to keep America like the one they grew up in and love, not a Mexican-American dominated America.” The writer and the people he is referring to need a reminder that the country we all love once belonged to brown people. Those early inhabitants were forced, often violently, to accept the “whitening of America” and most certainly a “cultural invasion and sea change in their country and traditional way of life.” None of us who are white are true natives to this country. We are here because our ancestors came here looking for a better life, and they built an amazing country. Why would any of us want to deny that same opportunity to those seeking a better life for themselves and their families? Read the inscription on the Statue of Liberty. That’s what America is supposed to be about.

After Clintons, Obama, let’s welcome Trump

Enough of the crying and moaning about Donald Trump. If we made it through the feme fiascoes of Bill Clinton, Hillary’s ambassador roast, the detriment of doctors and patients by Obamacare, we can certainly live through new ideas by Trump. Democrats should not even whisper a complaint after the hate-filled vitriol they poured on George W. Bush for years. And he was honorable! Their propaganda lasted long enough to poison the water for the best qualified candidate available now to run this country. Brainwashed Republicans have shown their weakness of character too. Now they cry for something better after treating Jeb Bush like an escapee from a leper colony.

So I say “Welcome Donald Trump.”
