Stir about flag display a waste of energy

Forty years ago, one of my past managers-mentors used an expression of “majoring on the minor” to emphasize how much time and energy people waste on dealing with relatively minor issues, yet pay too little issues on the major issues. And now we see a continuing furor over the display of the 150-year old Confederate flag being displayed in a museum window. Mercy me, we have so many more important issues to concentrate on, such as homelessness, poverty, 30 percent of our children dropping out of school, the increasing threat of terrorist attacks, harmful corruption in government, cheating by schoolteachers and administrators, rampant drug use, lives wasted by crime and incarceration, etc. There aren’t enough resources to work on everything. It would be wonderful if we could prioritize our challenges and focus on the really important items that would make our lives and society better. Getting into a stir about a flag display in a museum or a 150-year old Confederate statue should be relegated to the 10th page of our priority list.

Trump tries to roll back clock by leaving accord

Thanks to President Trump’s decision, America can now stand proudly with Syria and Nicaragua — those two bastions of advanced thought — as nations that oppose the Paris Climate Agreement. We watch in utter disbelief as President Trump attempts to roll the clock back by decades.

Does Trump really not understand that rapid climate change will likely make the earth uninhabitable sooner than later? Is he oblivious to the fact that a so-called free-market health care system will destroy coverage for millions? Why is Trump so pleased after signing orders that decimate long-sought protections for consumers and workers?

This is a man who claims to have the back of the average person? What will it take for the public to rise up against an administration with an anti-American agenda?
