Krugman’s Trump predictions always wrong
America certainly is not lost yet, but I can’t say the same thing for Paul Krugman. Krugman’s column “Signs of resistance evidence that America still is not lost” on Jan. 1 perpetuates his rabid attacks on President Trump, the GOP, conservative media and essentially anyone not part of the self-anointed “resistance.”
Krugman touts: “Many of us came into 2017 expecting the worst. And in many ways, the worst is what we got.” This from the man White House press secretary Sarah Sanders just singled out for “worst prediction of the year” for his post-Trump-election forecast that the markets would never recover and the economy would be very bad news. Krugman’s being so wrong in a field he supposedly knows something about — economics — makes suspect all the unhinged bluster he unleashes in others.

Voices of moderation work for common good
I laughed ironically as I read the New Year’s Day letter “Disappointed by Democrats” — the writer’s gripe being that “Democrats stick with their party rather than vote for what’s right.” With all due respect, this is not strictly a Democrats’ problem.
Let me remind readers that during the previous administrations, Republican Speaker of the House Mitch McConnell’s ultimate mantra was to un-elect President Obama and to disassemble Obama’s every project.
And then there was, last week, the obsequious flattering of the POTUS by almost every Republican, as the flawed tax reform was enacted. If this isn’t blind goose-stepping behind one’s party interests, I don’t know what is.
Thank goodness for the voices of moderation on both sides of the aisle, who are trying to unify the nation. They are working toward the common good (i.e. affordable health care for all, repair of infrastructure, protecting the environment, etc.)
