Tennessee stories highlight theocratic inequality

As I read the two stories “New charges in high profile abortion case,” (News, Nov. 30) and “Bus company knew of driver complaints,” (News, Nov. 30), I became so angry at the inequity of the actions of a Southern theocratic government, I had to respond.

A woman — Anna Yocca — with a history of mental problems was so desperate from lack of funds, lack of access or mental stress that she took a coat hanger to her body to end her pregnancy. She has been vilified and imprisoned for a year under $200,000 bail, and now faces additional charges that government is creating to punish her.

Also in Tennessee, a young man, Johnthony Walker, with multiple complaints about his negligent driving and treatment of children in his care, has allegedly killed six children and injured many more by driving at a reckless high speed. He is in jail under a $107,500 bond.

The hypocrisy and inequity of these cases should be evident to even the most hardened right-winger. U.S. Rep. Tom Price and his ilk will push women to a desperate place. If they are truly the constitutionalists they proclaim to be, they will keep their religion separated from their government.

Arrogance made Americans elect Trump

Hamilton’s own words applied to “Hamilton the Musical” were so true and bear repeating: “There are seasons in every country when noise and impudence pass current for worth; and in popular commotions especially, the clamors of interested and factious men are often mistaken for patriotism.” The faction of arrogant cultural elitists and their conceited posture of assumed moral superiority was exhibited by the producers and cast of Hamilton disrespectfully speaking from the stage to Vice President-Elect Pence, along with jerks in the audience booing him. This on an evening when he and his family had joined them in the theater audience was disgusting on so many levels. Such far-leftist disdainful arrogance is what turned out mainstream Americans to elect Trump.
