Let’s get more women on high court
Looks like we’re about to see some turnover in the Georgia Supreme Court. With the addition of two new justice positions and the retirement of Chief Justice Hugh Thompson, I sincerely hope that Gov. Deal and the Judicial Nominating Commission appoint some women. In the history of the Georgia Supreme Court, there have only been two women to serve … ever. Currently, Justice Hunstein is the sole woman to six men. There are plenty of well-qualified women serving in the lower courts to choose from. Now can we please make our court look more like our people?

Diversity probably at odds with nature
I’ve always suspected that the people behind the guns were the greatest problem. In Switzerland, every male of military age is required to have an assault weapon in his home. The purpose: to defend his home country in case of invasion. Crime rates are very low there. We, on the other hand, probably have more murders by firearm in Chicago than in the entire country of Switzerland. Gun control in places like France is much more restrictive than here, but violent crime doesn’t seem to have been reduced by it.
Anthropologists believe we are hard wired to suspect or mistrust those not of our own tribe (probably a remnant of the time when we lived in tribes of around 30 to 50 individuals). If this is true — and I think it is — the whole idea of seeking diversity for the sake of difference, which is our immigration policy, is wishful thinking at best.
Maybe it is time we heard more from scientists who study such things and deal in reality than politicians who believe in social engineering and Utopian ideas.
