Bookman says they’re refugees, we say they’re parasites
Regarding Jay Bookman’s column, “A fearful America loses its very soul” (Readers write, Aug. 19), we were losing our very souls until Trump came along. Bookman would have us treat illegal immigrants as though they were members of our families. It doesn’t work that way. He calls them refugees. We call them parasites. They’ve come across our border to partake of our welfare system with their families and children. Legal entrants into our country, who have come here to contribute to our economic system, are welcome; not those who’ve decided they don’t like they way their spouses are treating them; not those who’ve heard that our country is the land of the free and interpret that as getting free stuff. Liberals like Bookman need to prove their outsized generosity by personally caring for “refugees” instead of expecting legal, American taxpayers to do the job for them.

U.S. institutions need support to stop foreign adversaries
Our nation is under attack by a foreign adversary, utilizing foreign money, foreign agents, Russian military hackers and social media. It is well-funded and successfully infiltrated our president’s inner circle. The president’s campaign chairman is in jail and in court. All of our U.S. intelligence agencies agree this Russian attack is real and ongoing, with detected manipulation in at least three current midterm campaigns. Please channel the best of America’s heroes in stepping up to boldly and bravely act to fight this current act of foreign terrorism by working to support our FBI and special counsel. Please work in a bipartisan way to protect our voting process from hackers. Immediately push for an investigation into Russian agent Maria Butina and Russian influence in the NRA and American politics. And support impeachment proceedings to discuss and determine any presidential obstruction of justice and/or conspiracy with a foreign adversary.
