Congress gets wage increase, while we suffer
The wage-earning citizens have no say.
During the recent political conventions, we heard about stagnant wages, which is slowing down an already slow recovery. We heard about these stagnant wages from members of Congress. The wages paid to members of Congress are not stagnant because of generous cost-of-living increases which are automatic. It’s nice that they give themselves a raise while the rest of the wage earners barely get by.
I can remember making $10 an hour over 20 years ago, full-time. Today, in a similar job, I make $10 an hour, part-time. Recently we’ve seen an increase in part-time workers, and an explosive increase in income inequality. What happened?
While Congress makes sure to take care of themselves, they consider an increase in the minimum wage harmful to our economy. I say their annual cost-of-living increase is what’s slowing the economy down.

Khan suffered loss, not sacrifice
Mr. Khan’s son’s sacrifice allows a Hillary Clinton and a Donald Trump to run for President of America. Khan’s son willingly put himself in harm’s way to protect and defend my life from enemies foreign and domestic. Khan’s son made a sacrifice. Khan grieves for his son and should be proud of his son’s sacrifice. But Khan suffered a loss, not a sacrifice.
No one present at the DNC, including Clinton, made a sacrifice. Many present and many watching in their homes may have suffered losses, but the sacrifices were made by the heroes who gave their lives on our behalf. Khan’s charge at Trump was out of order and very sophomoric. For that, he should be ashamed.
