LEGISLATURE
General Assembly is in need of makeover
The Legislature is mostly a group of 19th century, out-of-touch, uneducated individuals who can’t distinguish between right and wrong. They embarrass the citizens of Georgia in their lack of wisdom. Hopefully, one day, we will get a group of intelligent lawmakers who will represent us as should be! Gov. Nathan Deal should take heed to my comments, because he is guilty as the Legislature.

Convicted felons don’t deserve to carry guns
Dear Gov. Nathan Deal: I call on you to veto the dangerous gun bill. It is beyond comprehension how we would basically cancel out an illegal action committed by a convicted felon. We elected you and our legislators to protect us, not to put us in harm’s way. Convicted felons forfeited the right to carry a gun. Why in the world would we hand them back a right they chose to forfeit?

Wild West was never as wild as new gun bill
Our legislators are taking us back to the days of the Wild West. Correction: The Wild West was not wild. Rarely did people carry guns. The gun culture we are experiencing now is a creation of Hollywood to make exciting pictures and sell tickets. Our legislators need to open their eyes and learn some history, realize the serious and possibly permanent damage they are doing to our society in the interest of bowing down to the gun industry, and realize how foolish and blind it makes those who voted for this insane gun bill look to voters.
They need to have a rude awakening. I hope they or their loved ones will not fall victim to the results of this bill. Only the veto of the governor is standing between the renegade legislators and this bill becoming law. Let us hope he will demonstrate better judgement in this matter than he has in many other matters.

Kids should get care after they’re born, too
While people argue about the best way to protect life (“National group boots Georgia Right to Life,” Metro, March 30), legislators who these groups support have voted to deny expansion of Medicaid in Georgia. While anti-abortion politicians may make abortions harder to acquire, they also make it more difficult for parents to afford pre-natal and pediatric care for unborn children. I believe policies that cut assistance to lower- and middle-income families are a contributing factor when women are faced with the decision to abort or give birth. Perhaps Georgia Right to Life and Georgia Life Alliance will join forces to advocate for children before and after they are born.
