Tech coach’s views on golf ridiculous

I was hoping to see the rest of the story today about Georgia Tech’s new basketball coach and, shall we say, his adverse feelings about golf (“Pastner says no golf for assistants,” Sports, April 16). I was hopeful his next comments would be something along the lines of “Ha ha ha! Gotcha! April Fool’s two weeks late!” But right now I want to yell “Are you kidding me? Can’t we all just get along?” I find it concerning that a person working in higher education has such a narrow mind. I find his comments and feelings to be immature at best, and controlling at worst. Is it even legal to summarily dismiss someone from consideration based on what they like to do in their leisure? Heads up to Charles Barkley and Michael Jordan: you need not apply!

We need bipartisan help on climate change

Today is Earth Day 2016. A day for nations to formalize the Paris Agreement on climate change. President Obama and President Xi Jinping of China are scheduled to sign it today, the first day the United Nations’ accord will be open for government signatures.

As a citizen of the U.S., an active and yet worried voter, I am grateful our president and many other world leaders acknowledge the need to set limits on greenhouse emissions. However, I am disappointed Republican presidential candidates (so far) do not provide leadership on this critical issue. Their silence suggests they think their voters do not care. I don’t believe that’s true. Polls indicate climate care matters to people of many varied backgrounds.

Vote for candidates that will support bipartisan legislation like a carbon fee and dividend that will build a clean powered economy.
