Bookman column just more hypocrisy as usual

Jay Bookman suddenly discovers there’s an “us vs. them” mindset in politics today (“In effort to save 6th district, GOP goes ‘full tribal,’ ” Opinion, April 12). His reserving his discovery to GOP efforts in the 6th Congressional District, however, is interesting.

Supporting a Democratic Party for which identity politics is its bread and butter and that has branded Republicans with every derogatory slur and ill intention possible, Bookman’s now finding it unsavory that Republicans are fighting back by delineating teams is laughable, and hypocritical.

And Bookman’s obligatory racism implication in GOP ads linking Jon Ossoff to the two Georgia congressman for whom Ossoff worked and is endorsed is standard Democratic race-baiting. Moreover, Bookman and cronies would squeal, “Racism!” if a Republican used the term “tribal.” They constantly practice “us vs. them” politics and then adopt a pretense of high-mindedness, acting like they aren’t the party drawing red lines.

Trump’s Syria choices speak volumes

Our president watches images of children being murdered and is bothered enough that he lashes out against Syria. Sounds like a proper response to myself and many others. Those same images validate why millions are fleeing the war-torn country. So why doesn’t the video of children’s bodies washing up on beaches as they flee the atrocities create the same call to action? I find it very troublesome when our nation is eager to send missiles in retaliation to war crimes while being against any effort to reach out a helping hand to those still alive. I think these choices say much about where our country’s heart is as opposed to where it should be.
