As I was channel-surfing the other day, I came across a daytime talk show. During the “hot topics” portion of the show, the ladies introduced a story by calling it an “infuriating story” and warned the audience that the material could be very graphic. “Protect All Wildlife” posted a video on Twitter that went viral of Guy Gorney back in 2011 who shot and killed a sleeping lion in Zimbabwe. On the video it showed this beautiful lion on the ground dead and two men shaking hands celebrating their accomplishment. When the camera came back to the ladies on this talk show, one was seen with her hands over her mouth, fighting back the tears. The host of the show then proceeded to read a statement made by Guy Gorney on CBS radio in 2015 defending killing exotic animals which said “I have a hard time understanding is, you know, if you have a picture of somebody with a deer, nobody seems to care, but if its’ an elephant, it’s a big problem, or if it is a lion, especially now, it’s a huge problem. But either way, I’ve stopped a beating heart. As the camera returned to the panel of ladies, there was a loud gasp as well as a resounding moan when the host asked what this majority-woman audience thought about those comments. One of the ladies on the panel said about Guy Gorney, “I loathe you. I absolutely detest what you stand for.” She went further to say taking any life is wrong!
This story really got my attention because at the very same time that this story was going viral, the House of Representatives in Georgia passed House Bill 481 “Living Infants Fairness and Equality (LIFE). This bill commonly called the “heartbeat bill” says an abortion cannot be performed after a doctor can detect a heartbeat. A heartbeat can usually be detected at about 6 weeks. You would think that this bill wouldn’t be controversial because we all know that a heartbeat determines that something is alive. An abortion would stop a heartbeat. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. The Democratic women in the Georgia legislature in protest screamed statements like “This is a horrible bill”, and that no one should be able to tell a woman what she can do with her body or the decision should be made by the woman only . One legislator felt so strongly about the bill she had to be removed by the House Speaker while speaking against it .
Wait a minute! What about the life of the baby growing inside the mother? Isn’t the life of the baby just as important as that exotic animal in Zimbabwe? Where is the cry for the life of this unborn baby? Democrats For Life of America are answering that cry for the life of the unborn. Just as the lady on the panel said taking any life is wrong. I am happy to report that there was one Democrat in the Georgia House that voted in favor of this “heartbeat bill” thus saving the life of the unborn child.
The bill has now passed the Senate and Gov. Brian Kemp promises to sign this bill into law when it reaches his desk.
I am here to say that as a woman and a pro-life Democrat, I speak and stand up for the life of the unborn. As the Chapter Coordinator for Democrats For Life of Georgia, I will continue to speak for the life of the unborn. Besides advocating for the life of the unborn, it is also important to provide a list of resources for women to help them with their pregnancy and any other decisions like adoption. This way they can make a good and balanced choice about their baby.
The Democrats For Life of America are determined to make sure the unborn baby isn’t an endangered creature and will continue to fight to keep a baby’s heart beating strong both inside and outside the womb.
