A 6-year-old Pennsylvania boy died on Tuesday after he lost control of the dirt bike he was riding and veered onto a busy interstate.

Bryce Treichler was riding a Yamaha mini bike with training wheels Tuesday afternoon in the backyard of his grandmother's home, which is adjacent to Interstate 83 in Fairview Township. The York Dispatch reported that the boy rode the bike down a hill and lost control, veering down an embankment and onto the interstate.

Momentum carried Bryce and his bike into the path of an elderly driver of a Chevy Silverado, which struck him.

PennLive reported that Bryce and the bike ended up on the shoulder of the road. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

His grandmother, Lynn Treichler, described his death as a "freak and tragic accident," PennLive said. A GoFundMe page was established to help the family with funeral expenses.

The Dispatch reported that the boy's death has been ruled an accident.
