Woman drives up telephone pole, gets stuck in high-voltage wires, police say

A 56-year-old woman has Tennessee police baffled as to how she managed to drive her car up a telephone pole and get tangled in the high-voltage wires for hours.

The accident happened just before midnight on Friday. According to The Jackson Sun, the woman's car went off-road, hit a fence and then drove up a guy-wire that connected the pole to the ground. That's when her car continued up the pole and her front tire got caught on a wire, leaving her dangling in the air for two hours until rescue showed up.

"I've been doing this for 38 years, and I've never seen this before," Fire Chief Jeff Rollins said.

Fearing that if one of the lines broke the car would not only  fall to the ground but it would knock out power to the entire neighborhood, the power company used a cherry picker to extract the woman from the car. She was taken to a local hospital and was not seriously injured. The car was later lowered to the ground.

Police say speed was a factor and they do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the woman's unbelievable parking job, but some witnesses claim they saw bottles appearing to be alcohol fall out of the car when it was finally put on the ground.
