A 26-year-old woman from Charlotte died after jumping from a waterfall in North Carolina.
The accident happened at the popular Elk River Falls.
Channel 9 received cellphone video of the woman jumping. In the video, the woman at first hesitates to jump.
Deputies said she was there with family members when she decided to jump.
She never resurfaces after jumping into the water.
A second person can be seen jumping from the falls as family, friends and onlookers scrambled to reach the woman.
Firefighters arrived at the scene within 20 minutes. It would take four hours before rescuers from Avery County found the woman’s body.
Deputies said more than a half dozen people have died from jumping at those falls.
There are warning signs around the falls, but deputies said someone has been stealing them. Officials are talking about putting up some kind of fence around the area.
