According to a viral Facebook post from Aug. 21, Lauri and Cari Ryding recently returned from vacation to find that their Natick, Massachusetts, home had been egged. A rainbow flag with the word "Peace" also had been stolen, according to the post.
"We reached out to our neighborhood to see if anyone had seen anything – and the results have been miraculous," Lauri wrote on Facebook.
The Boston Globe reports that the Rydings' neighbors quickly rallied behind them.
"We said, 'Why don't we all have the flags? They can't take them from all of us,'" Dennis Gaughan told the Boston Globe.
Neighbors contacted and made donations to the Rainbow Peace Flag Project, which provides the flags to community members for free, the Globe reports.
"Today if you drive around our Natick neighborhood – you will see 40 flags hanging in solidarity for the message of equality, diversity and human connection," Lauri wrote on Facebook. "Everyone has come to support us and what we stand for – and renewed our faith in the human capacity to love and heal. We are deeply grateful."
