For those wondering if Vice President Joe Biden is running for president, The Washington Post had the answer. Sort of. For a few minutes.
The paper accidentally published a story online Monday with the headline “Biden to launch a presidential campaign.” According to the website Newsblock which captured the story as it was published, the text read in part, “Vice President Biden plans to enter the contest for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, ending months of speculation about his intentions and delivering a jolt to an already unpredictable contest, according to XXX sources …” .
The piece was done in advance and is an analysis of what could happen if Biden were to decide to run for president on the Democratic ticket.
According to Post reporter, Paul Kane, a technical glitch lead to the premature publishing of his article. Kane apologized in a tweet.
“Earlier tonight, a technical glitch caused publication of a just-in-case/when-we-kno story of VP running for president,” Kane wrote. “It happened when editors were embedding video file. It carries my byline. I regret that it was published accidentally. Deep apologies.”
According to a story from Politico, the story was quickly pulled off the website and a Post representative also apologized.
The conversation continued Tuesday with Kane, again, explaining that the story contained background material that was pre-written in advance of an announcement by Biden as to his intentions -- something most news organizations do.
