At first look, 4-year-old Jamie may appear healthy. In reality, she’s in desperate need of a new liver, which could not only save her life but also help her find a new family.
“Her condition has worsened. If she doesn’t get a liver soon, she will not survive. We are looking for someone who can be a hero for Jamie and donate part of their liver and save her life,” said Marilyn Pape, with Trumbull County Children Services.
Jamie, who has been in foster care her whole life, was born with a congenital liver condition. While she’s been in and out of UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh before, she isn’t leaving this time without a liver transplant.
The "A Liver for Jamie" Facebook page has been created to help locate someone willing to donate part of their liver to save the young girl.
Pape explained the requirements someone must meet to be considered.
“You need to be the same blood type as Jaime, which is O. You need to be between the ages of 18 and 55. You need to have a body mass index of 30 or less and be in healthy condition,” she said.
In the meantime, the clock is ticking to save her life.
“There has to be someone who meets the qualifications,” said Pape. “As you can see, she is well worth it.”
