A video of an unnamed veteran being reunited with his beloved pups has gone viral.
First State Animal Center and SPCA in Camden, Delaware, stepped in and took in dogs Bailey and Blaze when their owner had a heart attack in September.
The Huffington Post reported that their stay was supposed to be temporary until the owner recovered, but as weeks went on the dogs were put up for adoption.
When their owner came to the shelter Wednesday, he was happy to know the pups were still there.
Adoption counselor Lindsay Carrothers posted a video on Facebook of the veteran learning he would be reunited with his pets that day.
"The dogs couldn't contain their excitement. They greeted him with massive kisses and wagging tails," Carrothers told Huffington Post.
But because the dogs were put up for adoption, their owner needed time to come up with the $250 adoption fee.
Shelter staff and volunteers worked to help, according to FOX News. A volunteer set aside cash for the adoption. Other staffers and volunteers helped with dog food and toys.
The owner was able to leave with his dogs Thursday
"It had everyone in tears," said Carrothers. "You could just feel the love those dogs had for him. And there shouldn't have been anything, especially money, that should've stood in his way to getting his family back."
Donations are continuing to come in for the reunited trio in the form of gift cards for food and gas and dog supplies.
