But Boston turkey farmer Joe Morette takes it a step further. He starts preparing his birds for maximum deliciousness while they're still alive — by giving them beer. (Via WBZ-TV)

Morette has been raising tipsy turkeys since 1993 — but getting his birds on the sauce actually started as an accident.

"It started by accident when a turkey knocked over a can and started sipping. When Joe cooked him up for Thanksgiving, he noticed a fat and more flavorful bird." (Via KUSA)

When he made the discovery, Morette was so happy with the difference in taste, he went as far as to stop giving his flock water. He says, "It's not a strong, gamey flavor, it's a nice turkey flavor." (Via Los Angeles Times)

Sure the turkey's choice of beverage might sound a little questionable, but animal advocates say there's nothing wrong with Morette's method.

A poultry expert with the University of New Hampshire says it's unlikely the turkeys are suffering and that it would take a lot for the beer to have the same effect on them as it does on people. The hops could even be good for the birds' intenstinal tracts. (Via WFSB)

So what kind of brewskis do the turkeys prefer? Morette says he started with Coors, but later switched to lager and has stuck with it ever since.
