Tom Anderton is a music store owner in Central Pennsylvania. But in a previous career he was a mixed martial arts fighter so when he saw a man stealing things from his store, he knew just what to do.

The crook was putting things in his pockets but when he came to the counter he tried to pay for a single CD.

Anderton, his friend’s call him “Mate,” told the crook to put the rest of the goods on the counter.

The bad guy decided it would be better to pull a knife on Tom.

Bad move.

"I went to get the rest of the stuff in his pocket and when I did that, that's when he pulled the knife out. And it was a big knife and that's when it was on right there," Anderton told WPMT-TV.

Tom’s cage fighting instincts took over, he punched the guy in the face and took the knife away as several customers helped.

But the man didn’t know when to tap out.

“I’m not actually trying to choke him out but he’s still struggling,” Anderton continued.

“In a second I just put my hand on the back of his head, apply a bit more pressure and he just goes limp.”

That, Tom finished, was that. “I just pretty much let him go then and he’s calm after that pretty much.”
