Kaila Mendoza, who was involved in a deadly wrong-way crash on the Sawgrass Expressway hours after tweeting "2 drunk 2 care", was sentenced Monday to 24 years in prison, according to WPLG.
In November 2013, Mendoza headed the wrong way on the Sawgrass in her Hyundai Sonata, and slammed into a 2012 Toyota Camry, according to New Times. The crash killed the occupants of the Camry, Marisa Catronio and Kaitlyn Ferrante, WPLG reported.
Today, in court in Fort Lauderdale, according to WPLG, Mendoza told the families in a letter: "I think about them every day and I regret my choices every day. ... I have no excuses for anything I've done. I just ask for forgiveness."
In 2013, Mendoza's case gained attention after her Twitter account was scrutinized. She described herself as a "pothead princess" and tweeted several references to smoking blunts and breaking bongs. (Click here for a video report on this.)
