According to Vermont State Police, the "Independence Day" star and his wife, Evi, were taken into custody at Vermont's West Berkshire point of entry after officials "determined both individuals are fugitives from justice from the state of California." The two missed a 2010 court appearance in California, where they face felony vandalism charges after allegedly causing $5,000 in damage to a Santa Barbara home they formerly owned, CNN reports. They later fled to Canada and claimed "Hollywood star-whackers" responsible for the deaths of Heath Ledger and David Carradine were out to get them, according to the AP.

Quaid, 65, is being held at North West State Correctional Center, and Evi, 52, was taken to Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility, Vermont State Police report. Bail was set at $500,000 each. The pair likely will be arraigned Monday.
