CNN reported Friday that a majority of Americans think things are going well in the United States, according to a new poll.

It's the first time the CNN/ORC International poll has found positive appraisal of the state of the nation since January 2007.

It's a slim majority. Fifty-two percent of Americans said things are going well and 48 percent said things are going badly.

Economic sentiments have improved over the past year, with a third of Americans saying they believe the economy is starting to recovery. About 24 percent said the same last year.

Forty-one percent say the economy has improved and 26 percent say the economic conditions are getting worse.

However, CNN reported men are more positive about the state of the nation and the economy than women. People in the Northeast and Midwest are more likely than the people in the South and West to say the economy is improving.
