They soon realized an 11-year-old girl and her mother had been living out of their car, so Marsh called the Homelessness Task Force to arrange housing for them, according to a Facebook post by the Huntington Beach Police Department.

As they waited, Officer Pricer, 38, decided to have some fun, and taught the 11-year-old how to play hopscotch.

"For an 11-year-old girl, to see a police officer towering over her is a scary thing," Pricer, a 13-year veteran, told The Register. "I was trying to break the ice and get her to feel comfortable with me."
