A 10-year-old boy was arrested in Pinellas Park on Thursday night after he set the front door of an apartment on fire, Bay News 9 reports.

Police said around 6:30 p.m. the boy went up to a child at an apartment complex on 35th Street North and asked if he could borrow his bicycle. When the child refused, the boy “poured gasoline on the front door and the welcome mat to the child’s apartment, knocked on the door, and lit it on fire,” according to Bay News 9.

The child then called for help and escaped from the apartment when he saw the fire from the door's viewing hole. When police arrived a K-9 detected gasoline on the boy and he admitted to committing arson.

The child and his mother were the only two in the apartment during the incident. No one was injured and damage to the apartment was confined to the front door.
