WFTV in Orlando, Florida, noticed a spelling mistake Tuesday after crews finished repaving and painting a tollway ramp.

What was supposed to say, “EPASS ONLY” on the State Road 417 ramp actually said, “PEASS ONLY.”

WFTV noticed the spelling mistake, shot video of it and notified officials with Central Florida Expressway, and it was fixed less than 12 hours later.

"To be honest, they should check before they open the roads," said driver Amy Busby, who saw the video of the spelling mistake.

A spokesperson for the expressway authority said that the contractor who oversaw the project ran out of time to get the ramps open. The spokesperson said that in order to avoid a $1,000 fine a minute for not getting the ramp open in time, the inspector was only able to look at the newly paved asphalt and left. The misspelling happened afterwards, a spokesperson said.

To prevent an instance similar to the misspelling from happening again, an inspector will go out after all the work is done to make sure everything is correct, according to WFTV.

The contractor will pick up the cost of fixing the spelling mistake, officials said.
